Shaan-Sharmilla, mother-daughter duo set-up Weddings & Event Management firm

Shaan Khanna, daughter of Mumbai’s well-known socialite and events manager Sharmilla Khanna has ventured into wedding planning and set up Shaan S Khanna—Weddings. Says Shaan, who studied at Mumbai’s elite Cathedral school and graduated from Jai Hindi College: “Since my school and college days—I would help my mother with organising her high profile events; the one event I always enjoyed attending most was Weddings—as a guest. But my mother was not into Weddings—so I decided to tap my talent and interests, and my mother’s excellent contacts, to set-up a Wedding Planning company.”
While mother Sharmilla will continue to focus on Events, Shaan will manage the Weddings business. Says Shaan, who worked with Rukshana Eisa and L’Official and Seventeen magazine prior to setting up this business: “After graduating in Mass Media, I didn’t feel the need to do a course in event management, or work in any other event management company because over they years I’ve gained some great experience in my mother’s business, and learnt so much from her.” And what is the Dream Wedding for 23 year old Shaan? She says: “Some years ago I attended a very close family friend’s wedding at Umaid Bhavan, Jodhpur. It was the most memorable wedding experience, since then Umaid Bhavan is my Dream Wedding venue.”
