Cricketer Sreesanth and Jewellery Designer Bhuvaneshwari from Jaipur
got married on 12th December at the Guruvayur Temple, near Kochi. Over
200 of the bride’s family and relatives reached Cochin on 9th December
where they were put up at Hotel Crowne Plaza. It was Sreeshant’s father
Shanthakumaran Nair’s birthday on the 9th, so a surprise party was
arranged for in the evening and it was also an introduction time for the
bride and grooms side. The Rajasthani theme Mehendi and Sangeet took
place at Crowne Plaza itself on 10th. Everything from the decor,
musicians, sweets and savouries and the richly embroidered costume of
the dancers represented the regality of Rajasthan! On 11th December,
there was a Pooja exclusively for the family members.
The couple exchanged vows as per Kerala and Rajasthani traditions. The Kerala wedding took place in the morning, at Guruvayur Temple near Kochi. The same evening the Rajasthani wedding & reception was held at Hotel Le Meridian. The groom entered the venue wearing a highly embellished sherwani with the customary sword and colorful turban on a white horse covered with embroidered satin. The procession was led by an elephant adorned in the traditional Kerala style with mahouts keeping pace with the musicians and dancers. As the baraat neared the entry way to the mandap, the groom was showered with rose petals and the baraat was welcomed with rosewater and flowers. Tender coconut was offered as a welcome drink, which lent the Kerala touch.
The highlight of the celebration was the traditional pheras at a flower-decked mandap built near the boat jetty lawn at Le Meridian for just 150 select invitees and family. Four pundits came all the way from Jaipur to officiate the rites. Sreeshanth reached the mandap first and in a few moments the bride’s arrival was announced by the Dhol and slowly the entourage came closer. Bhuvaneshwari wore a deep red traditional bridal lehenga embroidered with precious stones and pearls. After the nuptials concluded the public reception commenced at the poolside lawns. It was attended by 1500 plus guests including political big-wigs, film stars and playback singers.
